goldie's bush - MOKOROA FALLS

goldie's bush - MOKOROA FALLS

DURATION: 3 hours return

Goldie's Bush is accessible from either Constable Road or Horseman Road in the Waitakeres (around 30 minutes from Auckland city).  We tend to go from Constable Road due to being closer to our location but have done both ways and they're both pretty similar.

Constable Road does lead you down a lot of stairs (which you will have to climb back up on the way back) but Horseman Road has the same decline/incline, just without stairs!

When you get to the fork of the loop, you have a choice to do the stream walk first or the bush walk, we personally prefer stream first - sometimes we double-back on the stream just due to the enjoyment of it.  The stream track is considered to be 'advanced' and you do need to be prepared to get wet and wrestle your way around some rapids as well as some pretty muddy areas...all that spells out F-U-N!  Going the stream first also means that you end up at the waterfall instead of starting at the waterfall which provides you with a great view and location for a lunch stop.

It is best to avoid the stream track when there has been recent heavy rain as it does make the stream crossings quite challenging - the extra water does make the falls a bit more spectacular; so if there has been heavy rain, head to the waterfalls lookout instead of doing the stream track but for the best experience go when it will be safe to do the whole loop.  Another tip, be sure to pack some spare shoes to change into, because yours will be wet and make sure you keep your phone safe and dry...don't want to lose out on showcasing those epic pics on the 'gram.
