anawhata beach walk

ANAWHATA BEACH WALK

DURATION: 1-1.5 hours

The start of this track starts at the end of Anawhata Road, approximately 35 minutes from Auckland city.

This is a pretty simple walk other than the fact that it's a pretty steep decline that you will eventually have to come back up (and it hurts!) but it's a great day out, especially on - you guessed it - a sunny day!   The walk down treats you to some beautiful views of Anawhata Beach and surrounding bush.  It's a very scenic beach with some great big rocks that. once you are down on the beach, are great to climb up and find a good picnic spot.

Quite close to the top, there is a little track off to the left that takes you a great viewing point.  If you look behind you at this point you will see a waterfall in the middle of the bush.  There is a hidden track that takes you to the top of these waterfalls but it is private property so it is not recommended that you go.  We did do it but the owner was quick to advise that we shouldn't be there... we weren't aware that it was private property due to the fact it had been advertised on various blogs.  So be warned.

This track can link up with some other tracks in and around the area so if you did want to extend the walk there are a few options.  In fact one of my favourite stream tramps (literally traipsing through streams and scaling waterfalls) is on the Anawhata stream so if you're keen and have a GPS then highly recommend checking it out.

Auckland Council says no, but we saw plenty of people with dogs on both leashes and without.
